Hoshiarpur (Punjab), May 31 (IANS) Five members of a family were killed and three others injured in a road accident here Sunday, police said.
The family was returning to Panchkula after paying obeisance at Vaishno Devi shrine, some 250 km from here, when their car rammed into a tree, police added.
District police chief Parbodh Ban told IANS: 'Five of them were killed on the spot while three others have been shifted to the civil hospital here and their condition is stable. The car that was being driven by Ashok Kumar was overloaded with eight passengers.'
'Ashok was a chartered accountant in Rohtak town in Haryana while his in-laws were staying in Panchkula,' Ban said.
Hoshiarpur town is some 100 km from state capital Chandigarh.
