Himachal Pradesh to set up thermal plant in West Bengal

Shimla, May 29 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Friday entered into an agreement with Kolkata-based Eastern Mineral and Trading Agency (EMTA) for setting up a 500-MW thermal power plant in West Bengal, from where the electricity generated will be transmitted back home.

 

The plant will be established at Raniganj.

 

 

According to an official release, the plant would provide electricity to the hill state throughout the year. This would also help Himachal Pradesh meet the power demand during winter, when the its hydel generation dips by 60-80 percent.

 

 

The plant will generate 3,504 million units annually and the estimated cost of the project is Rs.2,345 crore, said the statement. It will be completed within four years.
