Atlantis
Space Shuttle Atlantis (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-104) is one of the three currently operational orbiters in the Space Shuttle fleet of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), United States Space Agency. Atlantis is NASA's fourth space-rated space shuttle. It was named after the two-masted boat that served as the primary research vessel for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts from 1930 to 1966. Construction of the Atlantis began on March 3, 1980, weighing in around 151,315 pounds and nearly 3.5 tons lighter than Columbia. The Atlantis has completed 29 flights, spent 220.40-days in space, completed 3,468 orbits, and flown 89,908,732 nautical miles i.e. 166,510,972 km in total till September 2006 . Space Shuttle Atlantis till now deployed 14 satellites, landed on 7 times on MIR (Russia Space Station and 9 times on the International Space Station (ISS).
