More detail about Wallis and Futuna Islands

The Wallis and Futuna Islands are Both French Properties

The Wallis and Futuna Islands are two islands in the South Pacific Ocean. This area is a small space that is actually controlled by France. The islands are official territories of France.

However, the Wallis and Futuna Islands were not always operated by the same country. The two islands have actually been found by different groups. The British found Wallis in the eighteenth century while the Dutch found Futana a century earlier. Neither country attempted to try and colonize these islands. This might have been due to how both islands are very remote from other places.

In fact, these islands are remote from each other. The two islands are about a hundred miles apart from each other. Wallis is located at the northeastern spot while Futuna is at the southwestern part of the land.

This did not stop the French from colonizing these islands in the nineteenth century. The islands would eventually become official overseas territories of France in the twentieth century.

The Wallis and Futuna Islands operate with the same rules that French law uses. This includes control by the president of France. However, the people of the Wallis and Futuna Islands do not have control over who the president of France can be.

The people on the Wallis and Futuna Islands are allowed to vote for people in a Territorial Assembly. The members of the Assembly will be responsible for determining who the head of the government on the islands is.

Also, the Wallis and Futuna Islands are earning money from the French government. Subsidies are being used as a means of supporting the islands and to see that they can continue to thrive. The islands even earn money by leasing fishing spots to other countries around Asia. These include some spots that are controlled by South Korea.
