Seychelles Reliant Upon Tourism

Seychelles is a beautiful area that has a lot to offer the tourists. This is very good for this country as they are heavily reliant on the tourism industry for their revenue. They are involved in services sector such as with transport as well as communications, commerce and fishing, and tourism. These services make up almost three quarters of the revenue. The employment, constructions, foreign earnings, commerce, and banking are all largely dependent on tourism.

Seychelles is involved in the manufacturing industry. It does contribute to the revenue but it changes from year to year. The income depends on the output of the tuna cannery that they have. There is public investment is the infrastructure and the foreign investments into the construction industry have kept it very much alive.

This area does not have much arable land to work with. This limits the ability to grow various types of crops. They are also restricted in terms of their forestry capabilities. Fishing is limited to tuna. Any and all of these industries have relatively little contribution to the economy.

There has been some economic growth within the last decade but this has slowed in the past two or three years. This is due to high levels of debt and shortages within the foreign exchange. The growth is expected to increase again in the near future but again, this is due to tourism. Because of their economic classification of the World Bank, Seychelles is not a priority for international donors. The level of extra funds available for this area is restricted.

The small economy and its dependence on the tourism industry create a risk of external shock to this nation. The threats of piracy that originate from the Horn of Africa aren?t making things easier. This being said, the area is becoming involved in offshore banking activities plus some exploration of oil in the waters off the coast. Things might be looking up for the area yet.
