More detail about Liberia

Liberia is Noted for Its Freedom

Liberia is considered to be one of the most open countries in Africa. This country, which is on the west coast of Africa and is surrounded by Sierra Leon, Guinea and Cote D?Ivoire, has been long known for being a country where people are open to settle in.

Liberia has held onto this principle since it was first formed in 1822. It was formed by the American Colonization Society. This group worked to help get black slaves who escaped slavery in the United States to get into a country in Africa where they could experience a greater amount of freedom. The formation of this country was supported by many Americans because they felt that Liberia would be a safer place for them than an America where ongoing prejudice could occur in.

One notable point about the freedom that is provided to people in Liberia comes from its government. The governmental system in Liberia is similar to how the government in the United States works. The main difference between Liberia and the United States is that the president of Liberia will be able to operate with a six year term instead of a four year term like what the American president has.

Interestingly enough, some other American influences can still be found around Liberia. English is still the official language of Liberia. Also, Christianity is the predominant religion here.

There are some concerns about how Liberia has dealt with internal conflicts. For example, the country was subjected to a large civil war in the 1990s. However, the country has since gotten out of the war and has continued to operate as it normally has. Also, there are some worries about how the country is handling disputes with Cote D?Ivorie. It is estimated that there are about ten thousand refugees from Cote D?Ivorie who are living in Liberia today.
