More detail about Comoros

Comoros is a Very Resilient Country

Comoros is a country located on the eastern coast of Africa. It is located in between Mozambique and Madagascar. An interesting point about Comoros is that it features a series of different islands with one of these islands being claimed by it but is not officially a part of Comoros. The island of Mayotte, which is the easternmost part of the area, is actually operated by France.

A key point about Comoros is that it is a very resilient part of Africa. The country has experienced a number of coups and coup attempts since 1975. This was when Comoros became an independent country that is apart from France. There have been a little over twenty different coups or related activities since then.

Also, Comoros has survived through a variety of different problems with regards to how its individual islands have functioned. Two of the islands in the country declared their independence from Comoros in 1997. These islands became occupied by African Union soldiers since then. This was used as a means of helping to create a full and united Comoros again.

One of the biggest problems involved with the country?s history involves the occupation of rebels in parts of the country in 2001. African Union soldiers were called on to resolve this problem in 2008.

This does not mean that all of the problems with Comoros are over. There are still concerns between the country and France over the control of Mayotte. Also, Comoros has been in a dispute with France and Madagascar with regards to who controls the Banc du Geyser. This is a large reef that is found around the area between Mozambique and Madagascar. This dispute has not moved on with anything new in the last couple of year, thus putting the debate over the control of the reef in doubt.
