For a team that was virtually written off right from the start and went with a captain-cum-coach combination due to a tight budget, the victory in the IPL finals last year surely was an exemplary achievement by the Rajasthan Royals team. Apart from Shane Warne, Rajsthan Royals captain-cum-coach and Grame Smith, the team comprised of virtual unknowns who turned into IPL stars overnight, thanks to their swashbuckling performances.
Yusuf Pathan and Swapnil Asnodkar have become household names after their memorable performance in last year’s IPL. Rajasthan Royals won eleven of their fourteen matches in the first IPL, an unmatched feat. What makes their achievement even more astounding is the fact that Rajasthan Royals are the smallest priced team at $67 million, bought by Emerging Media.
But yesterday is long gone and today brings fresh challenges, fresh resolve. Accordingly Rajasthan Royals will have to prove their mettle once again in IPL 2 to prove that their first win was no fluke but every bit the Royal performance their name suggests.
