Kumar Sanu

Everything you need to know about Kumar Sanu: news, reviews, in-depth analysis, opinion and more

Kumar Sanu is one of the leading play back singers in contemporary Indian cinema. His contribution to the Indian music and film is, in fact, applauded. He has sung a number of songs, thus helped the movies to be a mega hit at the box office. Kumar Sanu was born in 1957 in Calcutta, West Bengal. He was known as Kedarnath Bhattacharya prior to 1987 when he changed his name to Kumar Sanu after Kalyanji-Anandji suggested him to do so. After going through a substantial education and singing training under his father, who was an expert classical singer and composer, he kept his feet into the singing world. Kumar Sanu has an amazing art of singing. He copied his role model Kishore Kumar?s, the legend singer of the by gone days, style of singing. He started performing publicly in 1979, singing at shows and restaurants around Kolkata, and came later to Mumbai where he got the first opportunity to sing in a Bollywood movie ?Aandhiyan? in 1987. But it was in 1990, when the goddess of fortune became really pleased with Sanu when he got a break in the legendary movie ?Ashiqui? that laid the real foundation of Kumar Sanu as a play back singer and became famous overnight. Since then he never saw the face of misfortune in his career. Sanu stepped up with success one after another. For songs in ?Aashiqui,? he was nominated for Filmfare awards and won the five consecutive Filmfare awards as Best Male Playback Singer. Some of the films hit the box office owing to the songs sung by Kumar Sanu are: Saajan, Baazigar, Deewana, 1942: A Love story, and many more movies have been successful, particularly because of the contribution of Kumar Sanu. Sanu has also found a place in the Guinness Book of World Record for singing 28 songs in a single day in 1993.
