STORY: High Commissioner of Pakistan to India, Shahid Malik welcomed the informal meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and termed it as a positive step.

He said this while briefing the mediapersons at Jaipur airport in India's northwestern state of Rajasthan after seeing off Zardari on Sunday (April 08).

"The Indian Prime Minister had invited him for lunch and it was a private, personal visit, it was an informal meeting. I am unaware if there was an agenda set for the meeting but it was conducted in a very good environment. Many Indian leaders, including the Defence Minister, Foreign Minister, Interior Minister, Mr. Rahul Gandhi and leader of the opposition were also there. It was overall, a good and positive meeting," said Shahid Malik.

Earlier, Zardari and his entourage in a helicopter from Ajmer reached Jaipur airport to board a flight for Pakistan.

They had been to Ajmer to pay obeisance at the Dargah (mausoleum) of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

Clerics at the shrine guided and assisted the President of Pakistan with the prayers and rituals at the tomb.

Zardari and Bhutto also presented special offerings-comprising a large cloth, flowers and incense sticks-at the shrine, while praying for friendly relations between India and Pakistan.

"See, you can not quantify achievement in one visit. The biggest achievement is that the president of Pakistan met and exchanged views on how to the take the relationship forward," added Pakistan's envoy to India, Shahid Malik.

Zardari had earlier visited the shrine with his wife, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, in 2005.

Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated on December 27, 2007 after she returned to Pakistan from exile-had immense faith in Chishti.
