Azad puts blame on organization for dismal show of Congress in UP

New Delhi, Wed, 07 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 7 (ANI): Stating that there is victory and defeat in any election, nion Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said the Congress Party had made a full effort in Uttar Pradesh this time, but could not convert them into a win because the organization at different levels was not fully organized.

"In an election, there is victory and defeat. Every party makes a full effort to win the election. I would only say that the Congress Party made a full effort this time, but the infrastructure of our organization at different levels, block committees or district committees, they are not fully organized," said Azad.

"There were attempts made at the leadership level in Uttar Pradesh. There were a lot of public meetings and discussions, but until the organization is not organized it is difficult to gather votes from the masses," he added.

Azad further said the Congress Party faces similar problem in other states of the country such as Tamil Nadu, where it has not been able to fully organize itself at the lower levels.

"It is not only about Uttar Pradesh, we face similar problems in many other states also such as Tamil Nadu. But in the times to come, be it Uttar Pradesh or any other state we will have to organize the organization at all levels," he said.

The elections in Uttar Pradesh turned out to be a big disappointment for the party, where it finished fourth despite Rahul Gandhi himself leading the Congress from the front.

The Congress failed to win power in Punjab, lost power in Goa and was running for a photo finish with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttarakhand. A win in Manipur was the only silver lining in an otherwise gloomy result for it.

The Congress party's drubbing is also a blow to the government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, reducing his scope to re-launch reforms and reverse a slowdown in economic growth. (ANI)
