Punjab is a northern state of India bordering Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajstan.Before independence it was a larger state but after partition of India it became a smaller one. This indicates the current growth of industry and agriculture in Punjab. Literacy is high owing to the spread of education in the state. Moreover, the presence of many excellent institutes provide a better platform for educational development Many historical outstanding incidents of the state have been imprinted in the history and glory of India. The President and Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces Shri Pranab Mukherjee conferred one Kirti Chakra and eleven Shaurya Chakras to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty at a solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here today. Three of the Shaurya Chakra were given posthumously.
