A north-eastern state of India, Assam borders the states of West Bengal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh. Assam is the conglomoration all the cultures, traditions, monuments, languages, tribes and economy found in the north-eastern states of India. The President and Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces Shri Pranab Mukherjee conferred one Kirti Chakra and eleven Shaurya Chakras to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty at a solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here today. Three of the Shaurya Chakra were given posthumously.
The suspected NDFB (Songbijit) terrorists killed at least 40 people in the Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has condemned the killing of innocent people in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar in Assam.
