Washington, Oct 1(ANI): A new poll has found that Americans prefer to keep the photographs and videos of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden's corpse as a secret.
A Poll Position poll found that 49 percent of respondents want Bin Laden's images to stay classified, while nearly 34 percent of respondents want the photographs to be made public.
The poll results come after the Obama administration argued in court on whether Bin Laden's 52 photographs and video recordings should remain under cover, Politico reports.
Media firms such as Politico and the Associated Press have pushed for the release of the documents, and conservative watchdog Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act suit, calling for the documents to be made public.
The poll found that about 40 percent of Republicans do not want Bin Laden's photographs and videos to be made public, while nearly 41 percent of GOP-aligned respondents support their release.
About 56 percent of Democrats want them to remain undisclosed, while 28 percent prefer the declassification of the documents.
Fifty percent of Independents were in favour of their secrecy, while 32 percent endorsed the contrary view.
The poll, which was conducted on September 29, surveyed 1,156 Americans. (ANI)
