Government bends, Hazare ends fast

New Delhi, Apr 9 (ANI): Social activist Anna Hazare has broken his fast after the government handed over a formal notification for the formation of a joint committee, comprising of government and civil society representatives to draft a Lokpal Bill.

 

The government has agreed that a committee will be set up with five representatives of civil society, including Hazare, and five ministers.

 

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will head the drafting panel that will include Home Minister P Chidambaram, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, Law Minister Veerappa Moily and Water Resource Minister Salman Khurshid.

 

Former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan is Hazare's choice as co- chairman of the committee.

 

The government has set a deadline of June 30 for the panel to complete its work so that the bill can be introduced during the monsoon session of Parliament. (ANI)
