Mumbai, May 2 (IANS) After Bombay High Court Wednesday adjourned to May 7 his case concerning sex change surgery, Bidhan Barua filed a fresh plea seeking permission to commit suicide.

Barua (21), who has come all the way from Guwahati and is staying in a Mumbai hotel since a month, said he would commit suicide if the court does not hear his plea earlier than May 7.

Barua, who thinks he is a woman trapped in a man's body, came to Mumbai last month for a sex change surgery. "Doctors at Mumbai's Saifee Hospital agreed for the same. But my parents are adamant and have disrupted my peace of mind. They are against the surgery and hence, they have frozen my bank account," he told IANS.

Barua's lawyer Ejaz Naqvi also confirmed that the case has been adjourned to May 7.

"Two weeks ago, I had filed the petition in the Bombay High Court stating that I should be allowed to go ahead with the surgery as I am an adult and can choose to do as I please," he added.

"But," Barua said, "Chief Justice Mohit Shah assigned my case to a division bench of Justices S.F. Vajifdar and A.R. Joshi last week and they adjourned my case till May 7."

"They say there is no urgency about the case and that it can wait," Naqvi said.

"But I want to get this surgery done as soon as possible so that I can get married to my fiance," Barua contended.

Barua said that unlike his own parents, his fiance and his parents are broad-minded and educated. "They have no objection against our relationship and have agreed to the marriage also. My fiance helps me financially and morally, but I can marry him only after this surgery," he said.

Refusing to reveal his fiance's name, Barua, who prefers being called Swati, however, said that he is an Indian Air Force officer and is posted in Gujarat.
