Five books published in India on Commonwealth shortlist

New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) Indian publishing is carving a formidable space for itself on the Commonwealth Book Prize list for 2012 with five titles published in the country on the shortlist.

 

All the books, including two by a Pakistani writer and a Sri Lankan writer, have been published in India.

 

 

The books include 'The Wandering Falcon (Jamil Ahmad)', 'Rebirth: A Novel (Jahnavi Barua), 'The Sly Company of People Who Care' (Rahul Bhattacharya), 'The Book of Answers' (C.Y. Gopinath) and 'Chinaman: The Legend of Pradeep Mathew' (Shehan Karunatilaka)'.

 

 

The books have been published by Penguin Books India, Harper Collins, Picador India and Random House India.

 

 

Fifteen books are in the race for the prize, a statement said.

 

 

The regional winners will be named May 22 and the overall winner will be announced at the Hay Festival June 8.
