Moderate quake jolts Nicobar Islands

New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted the Nicobar islands Wednesday afternoon, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official here said.

The temblor struck at 1.12 p.m. Wednesday, an IMD official from the seismology department said.

"The earthquake was of moderate intensity measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale. It occurred in the Nicobar islands region," the official added.
