Punjab to link all cities with highways

Chandigarh, April 23 (IANS) All major cities in Punjab will be linked with four and six-laned highways at a cost of Rs.8,528 crore, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here Monday.

 

Reviewing the progress of ongoing road projects with Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Badal asked the ministry officials to ensure that all highway projects were completed on schedule.

 

The Amritsar-Sri Ganga Nagar highway (NH-15), to be constructed at a cost of Rs.3,000 crore, has been approved by the Union Transport Ministry and is likely to be completed by Oct 2015, said a government spokesman.

 

Four-laning of the Patiala-Bathinda highway and the Zirakpur-Patiala highway would be completed by April 2015 and Oct 2014, respectively, the spokesman added.

 

According to him, the four-laning work on the Kharar-Ludhiana National Highway would be completed by April 2016, while six-laning of the Shambhu border-Jalandhar highway, which is being done at a cost of Rs.1,800 crore, would be completed by March 2013.
