New Deli, April 17 (IANS) The prompt action of a Delhi Police officer could not save the life of a man, who was stabbed Monday in a busy market in north Delhi, but managed to catch one of the accused.

Assistant sub-inspector Om Prakash arrested Shamim Ahmed when he along with his associate Santosh stabbed a 25-year-old man around 4.50 p.m. Monday in Yamuna Bazaar.

As the incident occurred, Om Prakash sought public help to catch the assailants. When no one responded, he chased the accused and managed to catch one of them.

The victim, who has not been identified yet, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The initial investigation confirmed that the victim was a vagabond and was an addict of sniffing solution- the fluid used for repair of puncture of vehicular tubes- while the accused were also the vagabonds of the area.

'The victim was stabbed by the accused after he indulged in a fight with them as they were demanding money to provide him a few drops of the solution. The deceased had taken out a knife to threat the accused for getting the solution, but the accused overpowered and stabbed him,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police I.B. Rani.
