Protesting workers injure six cops

Jaipur, April 10 (IANS) A dozen vehicles, including government buses, were damaged and at least six policemen were injured Tuesday when workers of a factory here clashed with them while protesting against irregular wage payments, police said. Over 100 people were detained.

 

He added that hundreds of labourers working in factories in Sitapura Industrial Area announced a strike Tuesday morning and blocked the Tonk Road.

 

"When the police used mild force to disperse them, they started pelting stones in which at least six policemen were injuries," said the officer.

 

The protesters also damaged three police vehicles and two government-run buses.

 

He said around 100 labourers were detained.

 

The clash was linked to a fight between a workers and his landlord in Pratap Nagar area Monday night.

 

"The landlord and his family members beat up a labourer for delaying the payment of the rent," said a police officer.
