Bollinger hopes IPL stint earns him Australia recall

Delhi,Sports, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 IANS

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) Chennai Super Kings speedster Doug Bollinger wants to take "more and more" wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL), hoping it gets him a recall to the highly competitive Australian bowling attack.

Bollinger last played for Australia in South Africa last year before a hamstring injury kept him out of contention for the home series against New Zealand and India.

It was the same time when youngsters likes James Pattinson and Patrick Cummins grabbed the opportunity while the more experienced Ben Hilfenhaus made a remarkable comeback to the side.

Bollinger, 30, now knows he will have to come up with something special to break into the national team.

"I just got a keep on taking wickets and hope it gets noticed by Cricket Australia," Bollinger told IANS during an interaction.

"I was bowling well in South Africa and then the injury happened. Now with the other guys doing so well, it has become very tough for any bowler to make the team. The IPL is watched world over now and I am confident the selectors are going to consider my performances here," said Bollinger, who has started his third season with CSK well by taking six wickets in the first two matches.

Talking about his Chennai franchise, Bollinger said there was no dearth of motivation within the team for winning the third title in the fifth IPL season.

"I reckon this season is going to be the most competitive as there is little to choose between teams. Okay, we lost to Mumbai in the opening match but it is still too early to write us off or say which team is going to win the title.

"Dhoni has been a fantastic captain so far. He might have had a tough time off late leading the Indian team but he gets the best out of each player," he said at an event organised by Fisher & Paykel.

The New South Wales born-cricketer has represented Australia in 12 Tests, taking 50 wickets at an average of 25.92. He has a better ODI record with 62 wickets in 39 games at 23.90.
