Truckers told to stay quiet during Olympics

United Kingdom,Sports,Immigration/Law/Rights, Tue, 03 Apr 2012 IANS

London, April 3 (IANS) In a bizarre order issued by the authorities, delivery truck drivers have been asked to avoid whistling or shouting while making deliveries late at night during the London Olympics to avoid causing disruption to citizens.

The Transport for London department issued a code of conduct Monday for drivers who will be working late at night and in the early morning hours to deliver supplies during the Olympics, Xinhua reported.

The code urged drivers not to whistle to get the attention of shop employees receiving their goods. Alarms and horn honking were also asked to be avoided.

Delivery times are also being shifted between midnight and 6 a.m. to avoid the heavy daytime traffic expected during the Games, which will run from July 2 to Aug 12.
