US congressman asks Obama to 'personally intercede' in Pak doc who helped CIA track down Osama case

Islamabad, Wed, 29 Feb 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 29 (ANI): US Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has asked President Barack Obama to personally intervene in Pakistani doctor Shakil Afridi's case, amid reports that the doctor who helped the US track down Osama bin Laden, had his assets seized by the Pakistan government.

Rohrabacher has called on the White House not to abandon Dr Afridi and that he should be given proper recognition for his "daring act," The Express Tribune reports.

"Pakistan's leaders continue to show the US they are a hardcore, two-faced enemy not worthy of the 2.2 billion dollars in foreign assistance the Obama Administration plans to give them next year," Rohrabacher said in statement.

"After Osama Bin Laden murdered 3,000 people in New York City the Pakistani government protected him for years and now they want to punish the man who helped reveal where he was living," he added.

In February, Rohrabacher had asked the US Government to give Dr Afridi US citizenship and to award him the Congressional Gold Medal for his services. (ANI)
