Bulandshahr, Feb 24 (ANI): Rashtriya Lok Manch (RLM) chief Amar Singh has supported Congress leader and Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal for his president's rule remark with reference to the post-poll scenario in Uttar Pradesh.
"I support the comment of Jaiswal. Since the day former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao collaborated with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and later on, the Bharatiya Janata Party also tried forming a government with the outfit, both national parties have seen degradation. So Uttar Pradesh should not get a handicapped government," Singh told media here.
"According to me someone who is corrupt is better than an individual that commits rape, crime and murder if there is no other option. So if I am a common voter than I would cast my vote in favour of corrupt BSP but I won't choose a rape and murder ridden government. But that does not mean that I support the corrupt," he added.
Earlier, clarifying his statement, Jaiswal said his statement suggesting President's rule in Uttar Pradesh had been twisted.
"Why should a leader of a party that is going to win in Uttar Pradesh say something like that? My statement was twisted," Jaiswal told media.
"I was only explaining the constitutional reality, in case the Congress fails to get a majority as we are surely going to be the single largest party," he added.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
