Geoffrey Boycott opposes yacht club expansion near 2.5m pounds home

London, Fri, 17 Feb 2012 ANI

London, Feb 17 (ANI): Geoffrey Boycott has objected to the expansion of a neighbouring yacht club near his Sandbanks home.

He says that the building plans will encroach on the privacy of his 2.5 million pound home and pollute the waters of his private beach.

In a letter to local Poole Borough Council, he claimed part of the yacht club's plans to widen a path and turn it into a road so boats could be towed to the shore would intrude on his privacy.

Boycott doesn't live in the detached home, which is near the seaside residence of football manager Harry Redknapp, but has been trying to sell the three-bedroom property for more than a year.

In that time, he has reduced the asking price by 500,000 pounds and it is believed he fears the development plans at the Royal Motor Yacht Club will put off potential buyers.

The former cricketer fired off a letter of opposition in which he said he is "vehemently" against the proposal.

"...extending the footpath to 4 metres will allow small to medium boats to be pulled down that road by cars to enter the water," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying in his letter.

"Four metres is a road - not a footpath - and that's not fair to us house owners.

"Our privacy will be affected with noise and traffic," he said.

He also raised concerns at the 'extra discharge of waste and fuel' into sea that his property backs on to that he fears the extension to the yacht club will create. (ANI)
