Allahabad, Tue, 07 Feb 2012 ANI

Allahabad/ Ballia, Feb 7 (ANI): Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has said there is a possibility of president's rule being imposed in Uttar Pradesh if his party fails to come to power.

"If we are not able to come in majority then there will be president rule in the state," Singh told the media here.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari took a dig at the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Samajwadi Party and the Congress for allegedly looting public funds for personal benefits .

" Uttar Pradesh is rich but its people are poor. What is the reason behind this? I want to apologize and tell you one thing that Congress party, Bahujan Samaj party or Samajwadi party are not behind this thing, it is you who is responsible for this plight. ou people vote on the basis of caste and in the name of party," Gadkari told reporters in Ballia.

The polls in Uttar Pradesh are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted between February 8 and March 3. Counting will take place on March 6.

A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
