Independent eunuch candidate takes on political bigwigs in poll-bound UP

Varanasi , Sat, 21 Jan 2012 ANI

Varanasi, Jan 21 (ANI): Kamla, a eunuch, who will be contesting the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls from the holy city of Varanasi, has lashed out at all the leading political outfits and accused them of making false promises every five years.

Kamla, who is following the path of seasoned players and playing the corruption card during her political campaign, said the political veterans hardly return to their constituencies to address the woes of the people after being elected.

"I am contesting this election to fight corruption. The poor people in the country are suffering and they need to be uplifted. The Muslims have not received any aid, they don't have any health facilities for them. The gap between the rich and the poor is increasing," Kamla told reporters here on Saturday.

Kamla is leaving no stones unturned in garnering the support of the voters and in tune with which she is campaigning from door to door and performing at every corner.

The locals here have expressed high hopes from the eunuch candidate, as they are extremely disappointed by all previous winning candidates.

"The public is frustrated and angry with every political leader at the moment and if we look at eunuchs, although they are treated as outcastes, they only entertain and bless people. Hence, the people in this southern assembly seat are of the opinion to vote for a eunuch," said Vikram Bharadwaj, a local.

Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

Polls in Uttar Pradesh are to be conducted in seven phases between February 8 and March 3. The counting of votes would take place on March 6.

Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results are expected to broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
