17. GVs OF VILLAGERS STANDINGSTORY: A twenty-year-old woman was gunned down by suspected militants in Shopian town of Indian Kashmir on the night of Tuesday (December 15).

Shopian is already on the boil over the findings of the federal crime bureau (Central Bureau of Investigation) that probed the death of two Muslim women in May this year.

Sheeraza Akhter, the girl from Kellar area of Shopian was shot down point blank by an alleged militant in front of her father.

"Last night between around 7.30 and 7.45, one militant entered their house and in front of her father, he shot the girl. She received bullet wounds in her abdomen and one on her chin. Medical and legal formalities have been completed. This year this is the fourth incident in which a woman has been killed," said Shahid Meraj, Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

The unidentified armed militant entered their house when the family was sitting down for the supper and after asking them to identify themselves, sprayed around five to six bullets into the girl.

The girl received fatal wounds in her abdomen and on her chin. She was declared brought dead on arrival to a nearby hospital.

"We came from the room to the kitchen and we started having our meals. Suddenly a man appeared and asked my name, I said Muhammad Maqbool, he asked what's her name, I said Daisy, then he asked for the third name and I said Sheeraza. Immediately, he fired five to six bullets," said Muhammad Maqbool Mir, father of Sheeraza.

The entire neighbourhood of Kellar in the Shopian town was shrouded by a cloud of grief as soon as the news of the killing spread around.

Earlier, two Muslim women, Nilofer Jan and her relation Asiya Jan, were allegedly raped and murdered on May 29 in Shopian town, 60 km south of Srinagar.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday (December 14) filed a charge-sheet in the alleged rape and murder of two Muslim women in Shopian town, and ruled out rape, saying that the death was due to drowning.

Anti-India protest has been raging ever since the CBI came out with its report on the case.
