All communities come together to serve flood-hit Southern states
Kodagu (Karnataka), Sep 03 (ANI): Incessant downpour since August 8 led to the worst floods of last one century in India’s southern state of Kerala and many deaths were reported due to the deluge in neighboring Karnataka state. Nearly a million people were sheltered in thousands of relief camps across all affected states. After mapping gravity of the situation more closely, religious places like temples, churches and Madrassas opened their doors to hundreds of flood victims of Kodagu district in Karnataka, turning the place of worship into relief camps. In these difficult circumstances, it is humanity that prevailed over any religion, caste or linguistic barriers in southern states. This initiative by the locals of Suntikoppa town in Kodagu district has gained admiration of the local residents as well as the flood victims who are being hosted by the religious institutions cutting across all lines of religion or caste. In another exemplary move, the Sikh community in Kochi city of Kerala supplied daily meals prepared in the Gurudwara Sahib Community kitchen to the flood victims. Sikhs were seen preparing rice, pulses and 'roti' at the shrine and sending it off to flood-hit victims staying in camps. While floods and landslides due to incessant rains have affected thousands of people in Kerala and its neighboring states, the citizens of India uniting as one to provide aid to bring life back to normalcy.
