International Fund for Agricultural Development is an offshoot of World Food Conference in 1974 that came in to existence in 1977 as a distinguished agency of the United Nations with the particular objectives of eradicating poverty and malnutrition as well as increasing per capita income of the people living in the growing and underdeveloped countries. IFAD wanted the rural people have better access and scope to the food, land, water and other indispensable elements to eke out their living. IFAD also wanted to ensure the poor people have access to food market in the society thus enabling them to creep in to marketisation of foods.
