Aug 19: One of the most unconventional director of Indian film industry, Ram Gopal Varma, is probably the only director who loves to make movies with different shades be it on the background of underworld, gangster, romance in 60’s or horror like Bhoot and Raat. The director is now in news for two of his most awaiting films: Sarkar 2 or Sarkar Raj and the remake of ‘Sholay’ named AAg.
Sarkar 2 now renamed as Sarkar Raj is the sequel of Sarkar he made with Amitabh Bachchan and was a huge hit in the box office. Though Sarkar was influenced by the Hollywood movie Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, the director has revealed that it is more based on a political family rather on mafia and hence a family drama.
In the first part, the spotlight was on the character of Subhash Nagare a Mumbai based politician played by Amitabh Bachchan, however, this time the focal point will be on Abhishek Bachcan as Shankar Nagare, the son of the politician.
One important thing is that this will be the first movie if we exclude that song of Kajra Re from the film “Bunty Aur Babli” that is going to feature the three members of the Bachchan family together. However, Aishwarya Rai will be seen here with a negative shade and also not in opposite to Abhishek. Besides, the film will introduce some new talents from the theatre background as Varma wanted to give a new feel to the movie.
Notably as the director says, “after completing the first part it was Abhishek Bachchan who insists to take the characters forward in a sequel”. Also in this movie the character of Rai need not to be a glamorous one and hence audience will see Aishwariya without any makeup.
Abhishek Bachchan in the first part though was third lead after Bachchan senior and Kay Kay Menon known for their versatility and power-pact performances but Abhishek was able to leave a mark and here in the sequel he is in the lead to measure up the class of Big B.
If Satya was an entirely different kind of gangster movie that set a standard in Hindi cinema, Sarkar is a mixture of politics, gangster and family drama; this is some kind of setting a formula and others to follow. The film is planned to be released in the early part of 2008.
