Untitled Document

Aug 06: Gandhi My Father, is a poignant tale of the most revered Gandhi and his eldest son Harilal who failed to fit in the canvas of his father Gandhi.

This film is directed by a very eminent theatre director Feroz Abbas Khan who has not compromised the ethics of the movie for commercial purpose. Anil Kapoor is the producer of the movie and is happy getting accolades from all over the world. Darshan Jariwala as Mahatma, Akshay Khanna as Harilal, Shefali Chaya as Kasturba, and Bhumika Chawla as Gulab have fitted completely into their respective role.

Mandela who is in self imposed exile once said about Gandhi “ India gave us barrister Gandhi and South Africa gave back Mahatma Gandhi” has requested for the private screening of this movie.

Harilal who was the proud son of his father later on distance himself from his father somewhere accusing Gandhi as he was not able to contain himself as Gandhi’s son. He feels his wishes have been sacrificed as he could see only a father in mahatma.

Despite of his nagging failure in whatever he did Gandhi was there to accept him back for he wanted Harilal to do a lot for the country’s freedom to struggle. Gandhi connotated him as the first Satyagrahi.

This Film beautifully emoted the Gandhis burden of his idealism which was a impediment in this father and son’s relationship.Harilal died eactime whenever he tried to live up to the expection of Gandhi and Gandhism.

Harilal was rebellious but confused, he get involved in various malpractices from alcoholism to embezzlement and even converted to Islam not for his true faith but to satisfy his material need.

Gandhi dies in agony for he couldn’t stop India’s division and his son’s deterioration.

This is an intimate moment of Gandhi’s life never being unfolded before. The characters are fully justified. The movie end in grief and sorrow in all part of India on Gandhi’s assassination, Harilal’s pain died in subdued tone after five month of his father’s death.

You will come out with so many queries stitched in your throat…the utterance of which will revoke pain…
