Residents in Himachal Pradesh unhappy with capital shift

Kangra (HP), Dec 13 (ANI): Residents in Himachal Pradesh are unhappy with the move to shift the Legislative Assembly from Shimla to Kangra for the week-long winter session.

Government, on the other hand, claims that the move is meant for the benefit of the common man.

"There were people who could not spend much money and go to Shimla. So, for their convenience all Legislative Assembly proceedings and their meeting with cabinet members and concerned officials would be held here. As BJP promised to his public that we will be ready to help them, we believe this move will help in fulfilling our promises,' said Prem Kumar Dhumal, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.

Resident of Kangra believe that political parties in the state are taking political mileage by holding winter session.

"There is no benefit to the common man. It is said that Rs thirteen crore have been spend on constructing this Legislative Assembly office and expenses up to 2.5 crore rupees would be incurred for this week-long session here. The number of security personnel here is more than the population of this area," said Atul Kumar, a resident.

They say that a common man has no other option, but to sit and wait out from the main gate of Legislative Assembly. They come here with great hopes but it is difficult for them to cross the gate and see their leader.

"I have come here with my mother, so that I can get some help,' said Paramjit Singh, a handicapped person from the Palampur town of the state.

The week-long session of the state began from December 11.

As per reports, this winter session would be the longest one and many various issues of the state interest would be discussed and debated.

The Government officials claim that the move would provide opportunity to residents to witness Legislative Assembly proceeding and to meet cabinet members as well as the Chief Minister of the state. (ANI)
