National,Politics, Wed, 19 Nov 2008 IANS

Lucknow, Nov 19 (IANS) A case was lodged against a Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly assaulting a government employee, police informed Wednesday.

'An employee of the municipal corporation in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Ravindra Gupta, has lodged a complaint against Arvind Giri,' Superintendent of Police Ram Bharose told IANS over telephone.

Gupta alleged that Giri, along with his supporters, reached his office Tuesday and assaulted him.

The incident occurred after Gupta told Giri that a sanitation team of the municipal corporation would be sent to his area once it returned from another assignment.

Giri, who had gone to the corporation to complain about unhygienic conditions in his area, was angry with Gupta's reply and assaulted him, the complaint said.

Giri is a legislator from the Hyderabad seat of the district.
