June 28: Indian pop singer and music composer turned actor Himesh Reshammiya appolised for offending Muslim religious sentiments after his visit to a Sufi shrine in Rajasthan in a burqa.
On Tuesday, Himesh had gone to visit the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer but a huge mob gathered within minutes of time to watch him as he is a celebrity, popular singer-composer. So he was not able to entered the shrine and later come back with black cloth that generally wore by Muslim women and offered prayer.
However, it brought criticism from Muslim clerics for allegedly offending Muslim sentiments. Later the singer apologised for his deeds and the Anjuman Committee that runs the shrine had accepted the apology.
The Dargah in Ajmer is one of the most popular religious places in India visited by thousands of devotee of all religions everyday. Keeping in mind the sentiments of people, it becomes always necessary for everyone to show respect to the religious values.
It can also be seen as a publicity stunt as the singer’s first Hindi film as a hero “Aap Kaa Surroor” is set to release on this Friday. Well whatever the reason, the singer told media person that he felt sorry if hurt anyone but he didn’t have any intention to do so. He also informed media persons that a committee member of the Dargah had advised him to wear the burqa.
