National, Mon, 20 Oct 2008 IANS

Lucknow, Oct 20 (IANS) Two people have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district for allegedly possessing 370 detonators, police said Monday.

Identified as Mohammad Ezaz and Saddam Hussain, the two were arrested by the Special Operation Group and the Mirzapur police late Sunday.

'They were held from Barkacha village when they were trying to scale the hills in the area,' Superintendent of Police (Mirzapur) Pritinder Singh told IANS over telephone.

Mirzapur, 280 km from here, is situated in the Vindhyachal hills bordering Madhya Pradesh. The region has been hit by Maoist activity in the past couple of years.

'We are interrogating them and a Naxal (Maoist) link is not ruled out,' Singh added.
