Sibal slams Mayawati Govt. over soaring crime rate

Allahabad, Jan 14 (ANI): Launching a massive attack on the Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh Government, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has highlighted the soaring crime rate in the state.

 

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Sibal said: "The future of Uttar Pradesh is in a big danger, and the people of state should be very careful using their franchise."

 

"Rahul Gandhi has launched a massive campaign in the state to expose the truth before the public, which is not being received well by some people. But the truth is bitter and those people should have the ability to face the truth," he added.

 

He urged the voters to be careful in exercising their franchise during the upcoming assembly polls.

 

Sibal further revealed that the poor law and order situation in the state by saying the state has the highest number of crime against women, scheduled castes, and scheduled tribes amidst assorted social crimes.

 

"The state is worst on the Human Index scale and has attained first rank in murders and crimes. The country and people of Uttar Pradesh must question what kind of government they would like to come in power," added Sibal.

 

Uttar Pradesh elections, spread through a seven phase polling in the months of February and March are seen as an opportunity for Congress party to re-establish a foothold in its erstwhile political base in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

 

Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results are expected to broadly indicate trends for 2014 general elections. (ANI)
