Krishna arrives in Israel to boost bilateral ties

Jerusalem, Jan. 9 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna arrived here Monday to further strengthen bilateral ties between India and Israel.

 

An Indian foreign minister is visiting Israel after more than a decade.

 

During the visit both sides are expected to hold talks on issues of mutual interest to the two nations, including in areas such as trade, energy and security.

 

Krishna will call on Israel President Simon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He was also hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

 

"Bilateral trade between the two countries has been growing at a steady pace. When we established full diplomatic relations in 1992 it was a mere USD 180 million and current trends indicate that it will be USD 6 billion this year (2011)," Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said last month ahead of his visit to India.

 

Israel all set to sell its research and development to the world, whereas India is looking for expertise to enhance growth in several key sectors.

 

During his visit, Krishna would also travel to Ramallah on January 11 to meet Palestine Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
