Police arrest man arrested over alleged abuse of Oldham footballer Adeyemi

London , Sun, 08 Jan 2012 ANI

London, Jan 8(ANI): Merseyside Police have arrested a 20 year-old man in connection with the alleged racial abuse of Oldham footballer Tom Adeyemi.

Adeyemi was allegedly abused by fans during the Football Association Cup third-round clash between Liverpool and Oldham.

The game was stopped briefly after Adeyemi alerted referee Neil Swarbrick to the incident.

"Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident that occurred during last night's game," The BBC quoted a Liverpool statement, as saying.

"We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the police with the evidence we currently have available to us," the statement added.

The incident compounds a difficult situation for Liverpool, as striker Luis Suarez is already ruled out of matches following an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra at Anfield.(ANI)
