'Tortured' Afghan girl wants husband, in-laws behind bars

Kabul, Sun, 08 Jan 2012 ANI

Kabul, Jan 8 (ANI): A 15-year-old Afghan girl, who was tortured, beaten and locked in a toilet for five months after she refused to become a prostitute, has said that she hopes her husband and in-laws are jailed for her abuse.

Sahar Gul, 15, was rescued from a house in northern Baghlan province last week after her neighbours reported hearing Gul crying and moaning in pain.

Her in-laws pulled out her nails and hair, and locked her in a dark basement bathroom for about five months, with barely enough food and water to survive.

Speaking out for the first time since her rescue, Gul blamed her husband, his parents and his sister for her ordeal.

"I want them to be in jail. They gave me electric shock. They beat me with cables and tortured me," CBS News

She is currently being treated for multiple injuries that include broken fingers and ripped-out fingernails at a hospital in Kabul.

Doctors say she may have to be sent to India for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan police recently arrested Gul's father in-law Mohammad Aman with the help of local residents in Pul-e-Khumri city.

Aman has denied allegations of torturing Gul, saying that she was suffering from psychological disorders. (ANI)
