Kolkata, Dec 29 (ANI): Devotees from International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) celebrated the dismissal of the petition for a ban on Bhagvad Gita by a Russian court.
The devotees gathered in front of the Russian Consulate here, a day after a Russian court dismissed the plea.
They sang and danced in front of the Consulate gates holding placards thanking the Russian government for resolving the issue in an amicable manner.
General Manager of the ISKCON temple, Kolkata, Radha Ram Das said that the Gita had passed the 'Agnipariksha' (fire test) in the Russian court.
"As you know there was a case in Russia to ban the Bhagvad Gita. But yesterday the verdict came and the court has dismissed the case. So devotees are very happy to hear the verdict of court, and Bhagvad Gita has passed the 'Agnipariksha' of Russian court," he said.
Das also added that they had brought a cake and a special letter to give their thanks to the Russian Ambassador to India, Alexander Kadakin.
"The devotees are very happy. We have also brought a cake and we want to present it to the Russian Ambassador of the consulate who cooperated very much with us," said Das.
"We want to thank the Russian Ambassador Mr. Kadakin, who with very strong words, supported us. Today we want to give a 'Thank You' letter to the consulate," he added.
The case filed by state prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk demanded the imposition of a ban as they considered the translation of the Bhagvad Gita as extremist because it insulted the non-believers. (ANI)
