Sushma lambasts Manmohan Singh over corruption, price rise

Ludhiana, Mon, 19 Dec 2011 ANI

Ludhiana, Dec 19 (ANI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj launched an attack on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh over the government's perceived 'failure' in tackling the issues of graft and price rise.

Addressing a rally here, Swaraj accused Dr. Singh of not coming out clean on issues of national concern.

"If we ask the Prime Minister to explain the scams that have happened, he either says corruption cannot be stopped due to coalition compulsions, or saves himself by putting the entire onus on coalition allies," she said

"In the 2G spectrum scam case, he blamed it on A. Raja. If asked about food inflation, he says ask Sharad Pawar. If asked about the scam in the purchase of ships, he says ask Praful Patel. So, I asked him during a parliamentary session, that if we have to ask everything from others, then what is your role?" she added.

Swaraj further assailed the Prime Minister, saying he had betrayed the faith of people by abetting and promoting graft.

"The people of the country had chosen you as the Prime Minister thinking you were an honest and clean person. However, you have turned out to be the head of one of India's most corrupt governments. You even indulged in corruption to save your government," said Swaraj.

Lately, the Congress party-led central government has come under intense public scrutiny over its perceived hesitancy in dealing with corruption.

A string of multi-billion dollar corruption scandals have smothered Manmohan Singh's reform agenda and dented investor confidence at a crucial time when the economy is hit by inflation and higher interest rates. (ANI)
