New Delhi, Sat, 03 Dec 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament Kanimozhi, who was granted bail in the 2G spectrum scam by court on November 28, on Saturday said she would prove her innocence and get out of the case legally.

"It is a very happy feeling for me to be going to Chennai. But more than the bail, it is important for me and the others to prove our innocence," she told reporters here before boarding a flight to Chennai.

"Of course, this is a first step, I think in the case and I mean more than the bail, of course we are all happy that finally people are getting bail in this case but more than that I think I have to prove my innocence and I'm quite sure that I'll be able to do that. Face this case legally and get out of it," she added.

Apart from Kanimozhi, the other accused granted bail yesterday in the case include Cineyug founder Karim Morani, Kalaignar TV"s MD Sharath Kumar, Kusegaon directors Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal.

Kanimozhi and five others had moved the High Court on November 23 for advancing the hearing of their bail pleas, shortly after the Supreme Court had granted bail to five corporate executives-Unitech Limited MD Sanjay Chandra, Swan Telecom Director Vinod Goenka and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group executives Gautam Doshi, Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara.

The telecom scam, one of India's biggest graft cases ever, may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

Former Telecom Minister A. Raja was sacked in November last year and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licences in 2008 for a pittance as indicated in the CAG report. (ANI)
