Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh)/New Delhi, Nov. 15 (ANI): Right To Information (RTI) crusader and veteran social activist Anna Hazare's key aide Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the members of the Standing Committee need to bring officers of Group C and D within the ambit of the Lokpal Bill.
"It has been published that standing committee had taken some decisions on the issue of Lokpal. We welcome some of their decisions. We thank them that standing committee has decided that within the Lokpal bill, provincial ombudsmen should be set up in the states," Kejriwal told mediapersons in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh.
"Secondly, the decision, which they have taken that along with the Group A officers, Group B officers, will also be included; we think that progress has been made. We thank them for this. But, we appeal to them that they should also remember that the common man has to deal with the Group C and D officers and the people have to interact with them most of the time," he added.
Asserting that the judiciary should be brought within the purview of the Lokpal Bill, Kejriwal appealed that the members of the standing committee should review the decision taken in this regard.
"The second thing is that the judges and corruption of the judges has been kept out of the judicial accountability bill and they are thinking of keeping it outside the Lokpal bill as well. We would like to request and appeal the honourable members that they should think about the issue that if a judge is involved in corrupt practice then where a person should file a complaint against him," he added.
Parliamentary Panel examining the Lokpal Bill earlier in the day said that the committee has made a significant progress on the deliberations over the proposed anti-graft bill and would look forward to arrive at a consensus on outstanding issues as well.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, said that the committee would meet again later in the day to with an aim to resolve all the differences on various issues.
"We had the first set of sittings for internal deliberations yesterday and we have made a lot of progress on more than 6-7 issues. In another set of internal deliberations on another 7-8 important issues is likely to be completed today," Singhvi told mediapersons in the national capital.
"The discussions were very constructive and a lot of good suggestions and ultimately complete consensus and closure on those issues were arrived at. I'm looking forward to closure on the other issues very very shortly," he added.
Team Anna has stepped up pressure on the ruling Congress Party to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill during the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament.
The anti-graft legislation is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and public life.
The proposed Bill envisages the setting up of a national anti-corruption watchdog to check financial mismanagement and corrupt practices that have deeply entrenched themselves in several democratic and civic institutions of India. (ANI)
