London, Sun, 13 Nov 2011 ANI

London, Nov 13 (ANI): A Southampton army medic has created a 'band-aid' that would keep soldiers warm at the frontline and also stop their bleeding due to major injuries.

Reservist Major Robert Dawes has won accolades for creating the revolutionary 'Blizzard Heat pack' and has also been named Healthcare Reservist of the Year at the Military and Civilian Health Partnership Awards.

The trainee anaesthetist is credited with introducing it to frontline operations in Afghanistan along with new airway equipment and blood-clotting dressings, the Daily Mail reported.

The 43-year-old was nominated for saving countless lives through his 'awe inspiring dedication to patients'.

"The quality of care available to our Armed Forces is quite remarkable," said Andrew Robathan, Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans in UK.

"These awards are about honouring the best of the best, people who, often in the most demanding of circumstances, are delivering exceptional healthcare," he added. (ANI)
