Srinagar, Oct 26 (ANI): National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has denied reports of his brother and party colleague Mustafa Kamal blaming the Army for the grenade blasts that were targeted on security establishments in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Media reports in the evening carried the news that Mustafa Kamal had stated that the army was behind the grenade attacks as they were against the taking off of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from parts of the militancy-hit state.
Abdullah said Kamal had said nothing against the Army in any interview regarding the grenade attacks that took place.
"An impression and a perception that was spread is this that Mustafa saab (Mr. Mustafa) has accused the Army. He has cleared before the media that there is nothing like this. Since the incident has happened so recently, how can we point fingers at anybody?" Abdullah told mediapersons here on Tuesday.
"Police will investigate the matter and will find out the culprit. Right now, it is wrong to point out fingers at anybody. And this has been cleared by us and Mustafa saab," he added.
Kamal also denied making the statement and said that it was a false accusation made against him as it would be wrong to point fingers at anybody till the investigations are over.
"I was at a public meeting delivering a speech, then I had heard of this incident that took place. I had not then even reached Srinagar, and the mediapersons who interviewed me, stated within hours that I had said that the army was the culprit. How can this be? Right now, it is not even known who are the people behind this," said Kamal.
"I believe the police may not have even registered an FIR. An investigation will take place and then the results will be established. Even if people have seen with their own eyes, nobody will believe it till there is an investigation," he added.
Four attacks - three grenade blasts and one pistol shooting - injured four people including one police constable and three paramilitary forces in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Militants targeted Anantnag and Shopian as they opened fire at a bus stand and targeted a police vehicle respectively.
Another attack took place in Zainpora area, where the militants hurled a grenade on a police vehicle.
The first grenade exploded near a CRPF bunker in Lal Chowk area here. The second attack took place at a police post in Batmaloo area of the city.
The attacks comes days after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced plans to withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) from some areas of the state. (ANI)
