Defence probing Australian Navy sailor's death onboard during visit to Mumbai

Canberra, Oct 24 (ANI): An Australian Navy sailor has died while the ship was conducting a port visit to Mumbai.

 

According to the Herald Sun, the male senior sailor was alone in his cabin on the Australian Ship HMAS Toowoomba at the time of the incident. It is not clear whether the shot was accidental or self-inflicted.he Defence force has said the sailor's family has been notified and is receiving support.

 

"The Chief of Navy and all members of the Navy family are saddened by this loss and offer their condolences to the family," Defence said.

 

HMAS Toowoomba is on her way home to Australia after a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Slipper, the report said.

 

In last six months, HMAS Toowoomba has conducted multiple boardings and has helped numerous vessels requiring medical or engineering assistance.

 

The Australian warship was conducting a port visit to Mumbai after their Middle East deployment. (ANI)
