Advani takes on UPA II, says results of by-polls significant

Nagpur, Tue, 18 Oct 2011 ANI

Nagpur, Oct 18 (ANI): Terming the Monday by-elections results as very significant, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on Tuesday said that the result were a reflection of UPA II's inability to govern.

Addressing a press conference here, Advani said: "The results of by-polls are significant, and a reflection of UPA II's inability to govern. It is the electorate's warning to the government."

He further pointed that barring Bihar, all the other three states that witnessed by-elections were ruled by Congress.

"Barring Bihar, in all the other three states, Congress is in power and they have lost in the by-elections," said Advani.

Earlier, slamming central government, Advani said the Congress party is at war therefore justifying the bad governance in the country.

"Civil war is going on in the party, they are not running any government. Someone has rightfully said that there may be a government in New Delhi, but there is no governance in the country today. The situation is that bad due to corruption we are defamed; dysfunctional government, paralysed government," said Advani.

Launching a fresh attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Advani said: "Manmohan Singh is the weakest Prime Minister ever."

"Prime Ministerial post is the most powerful but Manmohan Singh is steered by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and as long as Gandhi directs him nothing better can be done.

"In 2009, when I called Manmohan Singh a weak prime minister, people criticized me. They said he is a simple and an honest man, and I should not say this. But calling someone weak is not an abuse. I have never seen such a weak Prime Minister. We have had prime ministers like HD Deve Gowda, Chandrashekhar and IK Gujaral. These people had the support of only a handful of MPs but were still strong leaders.

"Actually, the post of the Prime Minister has a lot of power, but as long as the prime minister is weak and takes directions from 10 Janpath (Residence of Sonia Gandhi), nothing will happen," said Advani. (ANI)
