Strauss-Kahn admits 'grabbing' French writer but releasing her when she resisted

Paris, Oct 15 (ANI): Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has admitted that he tried to grab the young French journalist, who has accused him of attempting to rape her, but released her when she resisted.

According to a leaked transcript of his testimony, Strauss-Kahn, 62, told police that he grabbed Tristan Banon, but let go when she shouted "Are you mad?"

"I tried to take her in my arms. I tried to kiss her on the mouth. She pushed back firmly. She cried out, more or less, 'Are you mad?' I immediately relaxed my grip. She grabbed her things and left the flat, furious," Strauss-Kahn said.

Details of the French politician's account came the day after prosecutors in Paris dropped all attempted rape charges against him, but said there was evidence he had 'sexually assaulted' Banon, the Telegraph reports.

Thirty-two-year-old Banon had filed a legal complaint against Strauss-Kahn accusing him of attacking her like a "rutting chimpanzee," in a flat in Paris in 2003.

A three-month police investigation, however, found insufficient evidence to charge Strauss-Kahn with attempted rape.

But the prosecutor's office statement added that it recognised there were "facts that could qualify as sexual aggression". (ANI)
